Critique Claims
Critiques of Hobbes
1) A sovereign violates individual rights extensively.
2) Absolute dictators are often overthrown.
3) Given Hobbes view of Human Nature a sovereign is likely to become a tyrant
4) Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
5) Other strong men in the commonwealth will seek to remove sovereign by force
6) Hobbes view of human nature is too bleak and too pessimistic.

I agree with 2,4,5,6 because using my background information and the world around me, this is what I believe happens in the political field.
Critiques of Lcoke
1) Consesus is often too hard to read
2) Elected representatives are more interested in getting reelected than the people's rights.
3) Electorate is often ill informed
4) Getting elected is expensive, beholden to big business
5)Enlightened self interest is becoming rare
6)The rich get richer and the poor get poorer
7) America is becoming less a christian nation and hence becoming currupt and selfish.

I disagree with most of these because if I believe that if you do something you are passionate about, you will succeed greatly. So I do not agree when people do jobs just for the attention. I feel like people who worked under Locke just did it for the popuarity. The one critique I agree with is 7. I think this because with all the new technology that was going on back then people depended on differnt things that they used to depend on. So they were becoming selfish over their own things and were not helping people the same.

Religious views and their influences on government and society
Thomas Hobbes and Thomad Locke both had a huge influence in government and society during their time.
They both believed human nature allowed men to be selfish, assumed that th sole right to defend in the state was not enough, and had historical settings placed during the fights between the parliaments and monorchists.
Locke and Hobbes did have their own influences in their culture:
Hobbes' social contract - consent to the dictates of a soveriegn
-the soveriegn can voilate righyts as long as he has order
-collapse of social order is when the soveriegn can be removed
-war constantly threatens to break out
Locke's social contract
-seperation between judicial, legislative, and exeutive branches
-people remain sovereign because they are rational
As you can see their beliefs on governemnt plays a role in society are very different. These ways influenced the the way government functioned and who was king/queen.
